The mayor of Waukesha, Wisconsin, says the typical Norman Rockwell-like Christmas parade held last night turned into a nightmare. Five people were killed and more than 40 others were injured after an SUV tore through barricades and slammed into crowds.

Mayor Shawn Reilly said last night, his community witnessed a "senseless tragedy." Police have identified the suspect as 39-year-old Darrell Brooks and they plan on charging him with multiple homicides. They believe Brooks was fleeing a "domestic disturbance" before the horrific crash. Police do not believe this was a terrorist incident. The FBI and ATF are also assisting in the investigation. Several people remain in critical condition.

Waukesha is celebrating its 125th year with celebrations throughout the year. The parade is always one of the biggest events of the year in the city. The parade is the official kickoff to the holiday season in downtown Waukesha.
