Southwest, American Proceed With Vaccine Mandates In Defiance Of Abbott

Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are both proceeding with vaccine mandates for their employees. Both Texas-based airlines made the announcement on Tuesday. The mandates are in keeping with an order President Biden issued last month, but are at odds with an executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday that blocks company mandates. Dallas-based Southwest last week ordered its employees to be vaccinated by December 8th. Fort Worth-based American is requiring its employees to be vaccinated by November 24th.
