Governor Greg Abbott is appealing the denial of a federal disaster declaration for the situation at the border. Abbott made the request to President Biden last month, but it was denied by FEMA nine days later. In the appeal, Abbott said the surge of migrants has "taken a serious toll on Texas border communities," and is continuing to strain local and state resources. The governor said the state should not have to "withstand the financial burden without federal assistance."
