Texas Governor Greg Abbott is signing off on a new law that calls for sweeping reform of the state's bail system. Abbott signed the Damon Allen Act yesterday at the Texas Pastor Council's Safer Houston Summit. It's named for Texas State Trooper Damon Allen, who was murdered in 2017 by a man who was out on bond, despite a conviction for assaulting a public servant. The law eliminates the option for violent offenders to be released on PR, or personal recognizance, meaning they'd have to put up cash to get out of jail.
