Texas Supreme Court Justice Announces Resignation

A Texas Supreme Court Justice is stepping down from the bench as of this coming Friday. Justice Eva Guzman notified Governor Greg Abbott of her decision on Monday. Governor Rick Perry appointed Guzman, a Republican, to the court in 2009 as the court's first Hispanic female justice. She was elected to a full term in 2010 and reelected in 2016. Guzman previously served on courts in Harris County and Houston. She gave no reason for her resignation, leading some to speculate that she may plan to run for another office in 2022.
