Chip Roy Falls Short In Bid For GOP Conference Chair

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy won't be replacing Rep. Liz Cheney as the Republican Conference Chair in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans removed Cheney from the position last Wednesday, and Roy made a last-minute attempt on Friday to replace her. He lost by a wide margin to Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who had the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Roy is a two-term Republican from Hays County whose district includes parts of Austin and San Antonio. He had argued he was more conservative than Stefanik.
