Heartbeat Bill Heads To Texas Governor's Desk

A bill banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected is headed to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's desk. The Senate approved the bill today after agreeing to a House amendment preventing rape suspects from suing victims if they want to get an abortion after becoming pregnant. S.B. 8 also allows private citizens to file civil suits against abortion providers or those who knowingly aid or abet abortions including reimbursement. Supporters say the bill protects the right to life. Opponents say it could open the door to frivolous lawsuits. It's believed Abbott will sign the bill.
