Freeman Now Housing Nearly 1400 Migrant Kids

Federal and county officials say there are now nearly 1,400 unaccompanied migrant children housed at the Freeman Expo Center. Last week, 500 boys aged 13 to 17 arrived by bus at the Department of Health and Human Services' emergency intake site at the arena. As of Monday, the number had risen to a thousand-370. Freeman has a capacity of 2,100. The kids are being screened and tested for the coronavirus while they await being released to a sponsor family or moved to a refugee resettlement shelter.
