ERCOT Claims Texas Was Minutes Away From Grid Crash

ERCOT leadership believes the Texas power grid was just over 4 minutes away from what they call a "black start" when they started going to rolling blackouts last week.

During an emergency meeting this morning, the leadership said the grid was just 4:37 away from an indefinite blackout that would have lasted for weeks.

ERCOT President Bill Magness is fighting back against the notion that they were not prepared for the winter blast that knocked out power to millions.

He says that they had been warning about this for more than one week in advance.

Magness told the ERCOT board today that, at the peak of the storm, nearly half of all power generation was forced out due to the freezing temperatures.
