D-A Deals With Backlogged Court Cases During Pandemic Shutdown

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales is dealing with ways to resolve a backlog of court cases. A moratorium on jury service was ordered last year because of the pandemic, and it's still in effect. Gonzales says he's asking prosecutors to see how many cases could be resolved with plea bargains. He says plea bargains can be difficult, because the accused, the defense attorneys, and the courts all have to agree to them. Gonzales says it can also be difficult to contact victims.
