Supreme Court Says Texas Can't Deny Abortions Because Of Pandemic

The U.S. Supreme Court is overturning a lower court ruling that banned nearly all abortions in Texas during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered a stop to nonessential medical procedures in March 2020 to help preserve PPE and conserve hospital resources. Attorney General Ken Paxton later clarified that it included "any type of abortion." A federal court judge in Texas declared the move too broad, but it was reinstated by a Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
