South Texas Congressional Candidate Says Voting Issues Led To Loss

A South Texas Republican is claiming she lost her congressional election because of problems tied to improper voting. Monica De La Cruz-Hernandez ran against Congressman Vicente Gonzalez in November and lost by more than 6,500 votes. She said yesterday that she has filed a complaint with the Texas Secretary of State seeking an investigation into what she calls improprieties in the election. She claimed her own investigation has shown that some people who voted in Hidalgo County were not on the voter rolls, and that others received mail-in ballots they did not request. De La Cruz-Hernandez also said she plans to run for the District 15 House seat again in 2022.
