A Houston trial judge is on his way to the state's highest criminal court. Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Jesse McClure, a Republican, to the Court of Criminal Appeals. McClure will fill a seat being vacated by 78-year-old Judge Michael Keasler, who's stepping down at the end of this month under the state's mandatory retirement law for judges. Abbott appointed McClure to his current bench just over a year ago, but he lost a reelection bid to a Democratic challenger last month.
