Salon Owner Headed For Runoff In State Senate Election

Dallas hair salon owner Shelley Luther and state Representative Drew Springer are on their way to a runoff for state Senate District 30. In Tuesday's special election, Luther and Singer each got about 31% of the vote, with Singer finishing ahead of Luther by fewer than 100 votes. Neither candidate got 50%, so a runoff will be necessary. Luther gained statewide political fame when she was jailed in May for reopening her Salon à la Mode in Dallas despite Gov. Greg Abbott's pandemic-related closure orders.
