University Of Texas Athletics Announces Budget Cuts

The University of Texas Athletics Department has announced budget cuts that will include some layoffs and furloughs. UT Athletics Director Chris Del Conte said the move was "heartbreaking" but necessary considering the economic impact of the pandemic.

More than 200 athletics department employees are receiving temporary pay cuts, while some positions are being eliminated. In all, the university said it is cutting expenses by more than 13-million dollars.

"We had many painful and heartbreaking conversations, but the decisions that were made were necessary to ensure our financial stability going forward. They were made in large part because, financially, our goal is and always will be to provide first-class opportunities, resources and support for our student-athletes as they develop and train for excellence in their sports, the classroom and life," said Del Conte.
