Courteney Cox Will Reprise Her Role As Gale Weathers In 'Scream 5'

Gale Weathers is back.

On Friday (July 31), Courteney Cox took to Instagram to share the exciting news—she's officially signed on to reprise her role in the upcoming fifth installment of the Scream franchise. Cox originally brought news reporter Gale Weathers to life in the 1996 horror classic Scream. She appeared in the subsequent three films, as well. Cox's ex-huband and onscreen love interest David Arquette has also signed on to reprise his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley.

The next addition to the Scream franchise will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence, according to Deadline. They previously spearheaded exciting new entries into black comedy/horror genre, including Ready or Not,V/H/S. The screenplay for Scream 5 was written by James Vanderbilt , whose previous outings include Murder Mystery and Amazing Spider-Man, and Guy Busick, whose written Ready or Not and Castle Rock.

Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett and Villella said in a statement: “We can’t imagine ‘Scream’ without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ saga!”

Few other details about Scream 5 are currently known. Production is expected to being in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year.
