Almost 100 Texas Mayors Ask Congress For Economic Relief Amid Pandemic

Nearly 100 Texas mayors are asking Congress for more funding to help offset revenue losses due to the pandemic-related economic slowdown. The downturn has sharply reduced sales tax revenues in the state. Texas received 11-billion dollars from the CARES Act, which were divided among the state, county and city governments. The House of Representatives has approved a Democratic plan to add another trillion-dollars for local governments, but the GOP-led Senate hasn't approved it.
