Austin May Fine People Who Don't Wear Masks In Public

Austin City Council may impose a two-thousand-dollar fine on anybody not wearing a mask in public. Under a separate ordinance, the city would take civil action against businesses that don't comply with minimum pandemic practices. Governor Greg Abbott notified Austin Mayor Steve Adler that he supports the idea of the fine for the sake of public health and safety. The governor's letter doesn't give Adler additional power beyond enforcing Abbott's executive orders.
