Mayor Says Hospitals Stressed With Increasing COVID-19 Hospitalizations

Metro Health officials are reporting 15,880 cases of coronavirus in Bexar County. The total includes 778 new cases that were reported on Tuesday. Officials also reported five new deaths, so the county's death toll is now 137. Nearly 6,100 patients have recovered.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg says the hospital system remains under "high stress" with 1,235 coronavirus patients now hospitalized. That's an increase of 67 from yesterday. 389 are in ICU with 221 on a ventilator.

Mayor Nirenberg says the city is initiating a new caller ID feature to help with contact tracing. A lot of city residents don't answer their phones, so caller ID will now show calls from the city as "SA Health Department." Dr. Colleen Bridger, interim director of Metro Health, says the caller ID feature had been on the drawing board for a while, but the city's complicated phone system led to delays.
