Nirenberg And Wolff Ask Abbott For More Local Authority During Pandemic

Local officials are asking Gov. Greg Abbott to grant them more authority to fight the pandemic. San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff sent a letter to Abbott on Monday saying the spike in cases in the San Antonio area calls for measures such as a stay-at-home mandate. The two of them had issued such an order early in the pandemic, but Abbott later took the authority for such restrictions out of local hands and reserved the power to reopen the economy to the state.
