A genetic engineering company based in Houston claims to have developed a possible vaccine against the coronavirus. An executive with Greffex says their researchers use a genetic adenovirus-based platform that enables them to produce any vaccine quickly. Greffex developed a vaccine for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in 2015, and since MERS is similar to the coronavirus, they created the vaccine from that research. The company needs government funding for animal testing, and then will need FDA approval to conduct human trials. That approval may take up to a year and a half to obtain.
