Remember the Alamo: Ceremonies Held Marking 1836 Battle

Ceremonies are being held today commemorating the March 6, 1836 Battle of the Alamo.

On this date in 1836, Mexican General Santa Anna ordered a pre-dawn attack on the mission, killing nearly 200 Texians who fought to defend the Republic of Texas.

Today's event schedule:

6 a.m. - Dawn at the Alamo

10 a.m. - Commemoration Ceremony with the Sons of the Republic of Texas

2 p.m. - Commemoration Ceremony with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas

6 p.m. - Remember the Defenders

Governor Greg Abbott tweeted, "On this day, we remember the courage of the Alamo defenders. From their sacrifice, a free and independent Republic of Texas was born. It is our privilege, our duty, to preserve that cause of liberty."
