VIA Taking Steps To Protect Bus Drivers

VIA Metropolitan Transit is taking steps to protect its bus drivers from the ridership. At a VIA board meeting on Tuesday night, bus drivers complained of being spat on, verbally abused, and physically attacked. A 53-year-old driver who was assaulted last week is back on the job. VIA told them it's about to test a new barrier to be placed between drivers and their riders. In the meantime, uniformed and plainclothes police officers will be riding more buses to monitor the situation and help out as needed.
