Move Seeks To Place Memorial To The Republic Of Texas In Washington, DC

A congressman from Texas is proposing a historic marker in the nation's capital to honor the memory of the Republic of Texas. Representative Lloyd Doggett, an Austin Democrat, wants a Texas Legation Memorial to recognize the diplomatic history of the nation that later became a state. Between 1836 and 1845, Texas sent legations to Washington, London and Paris. Doggett's bill has bipartisan support and would authorize the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to raise funds to place the memorial
