SAPD Officer Shoots, Kills Aggravated Sexual Assault Suspect

An aggravated sexual assault suspect who had been the target of a two day search by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was shot and killed during a confrontation with a San Antonio Police Officer overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"This suspect here is an aggravated sexual assault suspect from a sexual assault two days ago, and he was in his mid-thirties," Sheriff Javier Salazar told 1200 WOAI news on the scene.

Police Chief Bill McManus said the suspect pulled into a gas station at Ray Ellison and Loop 410 on the southwest side, he wasn't sure if he needed gas or if we noticed he was being followed and was trying to dodge the Task Force.

"He pulled into the gas station here and got boxed in by the task force vehicles," McManus said. "In the vehicle he had a long rifle, not sure it was an AR rifle or what sort of rifle it was, but he had a long rifle with a drum style magazine."

McManus says the officer noticed the rifle in the suspect's car.

"When an SAPD officer approached the vehicle, an SAPD officer would up firing a shot, striking the suspect."

The suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nobody else was hurt.
