Hundreds of water rescues reported in Beaumont area due to flooding

Hundreds of water rescues were reported after flooding caused by rain from Tropical Depression Imelda. More than 20 inches of rain was reported in the Beaumont area where officials say the 911 system was stretched to the limits with calls from people needing help. There are no reports of any injuries. Roads throughout that part of the state, including busy I-10 were shut down due to high water. Many power outages were also reported. Intergy says at least 40,000 customers were without power in the Beaumont area at one point and some may not have service restored until after the weekend when water has had time to recede.
