SAFD Recommended for Top Accreditation by National Board

Probably the number one concern of taxpayers is that the city they live in have a high quality fire department, and a national accreditation organization says the San Antonio Fire Department is one of the best, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Mayor Nirenberg says the Commission on Fire Accredatation International has recommending the San Antonio Fire Department receive its top level accreditation.

"This process enhances communications capabilities both interally and externally, and that is something we can all witness every day," the Mayor said.

Fire Chief Charles Hood has made top level accreditation a key goal for his department.

"The Fire Department of San Antonio is operating using the best practices and in the most efficient manner possible," Nirenberg said.

If granted by the CFAI board, San Antonio will become one of only four fire departments nationwide to hold both this honor and a 'Class One' rating from the Insurance Services Office.  Both should help hold down fire insurance rates for San Antonio residents.
