Florida Man Tried To Sell Counterfeit Cash On Facebook

Levy Newberry

Police in Florida arrested a man after he allegedly tried to sell counterfeit money on Facebook. Authorities claim that 29-year-old Levy Newberry found a template on Pinterest to make fake money and used it to print 5, 10, 20, and 50 dollar bills. Newberry picked up some resume paper and went to the library to start printing the fake money.

Once he had the bills in hand, he created a fake Facebook profile where he lined up a person to buy $500 worth of fake money for $250. Newberry might have gotten away with his scheme, but his landlord called police after he tried to pay his rent with the counterfeit cash.

“He found the template on Pinterest to print the bills and decided to give it a whirl himself,” Pasco County Office Detective Spencer Hubbell told FOX13 News. “It wasn’t very good. It was on plain paper quality, but he didn’t really have a specific reason for printing. He just said he wanted to see what they would turn out like.”

When deputies searched Newberry's apartment, they found around $700 in fake bills. He told the police that he had made more but dumped them in a storm drain. He was arrested and charged with forgery, trafficking in stolen property, and violation of probation. He was denied bond and remains in prison.
