Three East Side Homes Destroyed by Fire

San Antonio Firefighters allowed an east side home to burn down this morning, after the two story home was declared a total loss, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

When firefighters arrived at the house in the 900 block of Dawson Street, which is off Hackberry, the home was engulfed in flames, and fire was shooting out of the roof.

Firefighters immediately made the decision to 'go defensive,' which means rather than working to save the burning home, they concentrated on making sure the flames didn't spread to nearby houses.

Then, after the fire was contained, fire crews made the decision to allow the fire to consume the rest of the structure, rather than leave behind a 'dangerous structure' that might collapse on passersby.

The home was vacant and boarded up and nobody was hurt.

A little while later, crews were called to a house fire on Montana St, just east of the Alamodome.  It too was vacant, and it too is a total loss.

No word if the two apparently arson fires are related.
