200 Plus Pounds of Pot Seized at Texas-Mexico Border

While illegal immigration gets all the attention...the drug smuggling business is booming for the Mexican cartels who control the region just south of the Rio Grande, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The Border Patrol says it found 221 pounds of marijuana, bundled into 17 packages, inside a car being driven into Texas on the International Bridge in Brownsville.

The weed has a street value of about $44,000.

The driver of the car, a 19 year old Brownsville woman, was arrested.

The pot was found stashed in various locations in the 2001 Toyota Camry.
