An 18-year-old hiker visiting Yosemite National Park from Israel died Tuesday after reportedly trying to take a selfie the Fresno Bee reported.
Tomer Frankfurter, 18, was identified by Israel's Foreign Ministry and local sources confirmed his death.
According to Frankfurter's mother, the 18-year-old lost his balance while trying to take a photo of himself at the edge of Nevada Fall, when he fell 820 feet to his death she told The Times of Israel.
Frankfurter was on a two-month trip to the United States prior to joining Israel's army, his mother told Israel's Channel 10 news.
Nevada Fall is about a six-hour hike from Yosemite Valley, located along the famed Half Dome trail.
The newspaper reported that Frankfurter's body was being transported back home to Israel to be buried.
