Mother Serious, Newborn Critical Following Bus Stop Wreck

A woman who gave birth to a baby son a day after she was run over by an out of control car as she stood at a bus stop at Zarzamora and Culebra is listed in serious condition, and baby Ethan is in critical condition, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Stephanie Athey was among four people who were badly hurt when a car traveling at a high rate of speed down Culebra Rd on Tuesday, when the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle that was stopped at a red light, lost control, smashed into a concrete wall, and ran over the people at the bus stop.

In a family statement released by University Hospital, Stephanie and Ethan's family thanked first responders, and urged people who want to help to donate blood.

"Special thanks go to the team at University Hospital who have worked tirelessly to give Stephanie and Baby Ethan a fighting chance," the family said.
