Thursday Designated as Manu Ginobili Day in San Antonio

Thursday will be Manu Ginobili Day in San Antonio, by order of Mayor Nirenberg, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"We should make a citywide show of gratitude for a man who was and is legendary in the NBA and certainly here in San Antonio," the mayor said.

Nirenberg says there are no plans for specific events on Thursday to honor Ginobili, who announced his retirement yesterday after 16 seasons with the Spurs.  He says he expects there will be some mentions of Manu at City Council, which holds its regular meetings on Thursdays.

He said its up to the citizens to show their support for Manu, pointing that that billboards honoring and thanking Ginobili have already begun to spring up around the city.

"We definitely are going to make sure that, as much as possible, the city is decked out in silver and black," Nirenberg said.  "Everywhere and every way we can, we want to say 'Gracias Manu'."
