Eagle Pass Border Patrol Rescues Six Illegals from Rio Grande

The Border Patrol in Eagle Pass rescued three separate families who were trying to swim across the Rio Grande or paddle across in small boats in one 24 hour period over the weekend, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

“Our agents are constantly on patrol and ready to respond to life-threatening situations. This weekend our marine agents saved six people who risked their lives in the dangerous waters of the Rio Grande,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez.

“Our agents relied on their training to rescue and evaluate the conditions of the adults and children they encountered.”

The first incident started when marine Border Patrol agents, patrolling near downtown Eagle Pass, came across two people, a father and son from Honduras, struggling in the water.Agents managed to pull the two out of the strong river current.

Later that day, marine agents rescued two adults and two children from different families who were attempting to cross the river.  All four people, from Mexico, were pulled out of the river by Border Patrol boats and treated at a local hospital.

The Border Patrol says all six of the rescued individuals will be processed in the normal procedure, and they may face deportation.

The incident points out the lifesaving role that Border Patrol and ICE perform alone the U.S. Mexico border, a role that is often ignored in the hysteria over U.S. border procedures under the Trump Administration.
