Another Pedestrian Hit by Car While Trying to Dash Across Darkened Street

San Antonio is having a very bad summer for collisions involving pedestrians and vehicles, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

A 57 year old woman is the latest victim.

Police tell News Radio 1200 WOAI she was trying to run across Zarzamora Street on the west side in a darkened area and away from a marked crosswalk, when she was hit by a car.

She was rushed to SAMMC in critical condition with massive head and facial injuries.  She was listed in critical condition.

It is a familiar story...the driver said he didn't see the woman in the dark until it was too late.  He will not face charges.

Incidents like this have happening two or three times a week, and the pattern has become disturbingly similar.  In almost all cases, there is a lighted and marked crosswalk within 100 yards of the place where the person attempted to run across the road.

Officials say people want to run across the road to safe time, but being rushed to the hospital with potentially live altering injuries will cost a lot more time than walking to a crosswalk.
