4.9 Million Texans to Travel Over Memorial Day Holiday

Higher gasoline prices aren't stopping us from hitting the road this Memorial Day, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

AAA Texas says 3.4 million Texans will travel fifty miles or more from home over the upcoming holiday.

That is more than 5% more than last year, and the most in more than a dozen years.AAA says that will mean delays on many of the roads over the long weekend.

AAA Texas' Daniel Armbruster says the strong economy is overcoming the higher gas prices, prompting drivers to hit the road.

The vast majority of Texas travelers, 2.9 million, will be traveling by car.  But the biggest jump will be in air travel, up 7.2% from last Memorial Day.
