Woman Critical Following Incident After Her Arrest

San Antonio Police are investigating the case of a 57 year old woman who was found unresponsive in a holding cell, hours after she was arrested for public intoxication, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The police report says the woman was causing a disturbance at a home, and police officers attempted to calm her down, but she began walking, 'clearly intoxicated' toward the street, so she was booked on a public intox charge.

She was booked into a holding cell at the Central Magistrate's office on South Frio, where she was found unresponsive on the floor with a telephone cord wrapped around her neck.

The woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the woman had not threatened to kill herself and had no history of suicide attempts, and say the incident could have been the accidental result of her intoxication.

Police are investigating the incident.
