Teen Girl Shot At Maryland High School Has Died

The young girl who was shot in the head in the hallway of Great Mills High School in Maryland had died from her wounds. The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office announced that Jaelynn Willey passed away at 11:34 pm on Thursday night. Her family had said they were removing her from life support earlier in the day. Melissa Willey said that her 16-year-old daughter was brain dead and had "no life left in her."

Jaelynn was the second oldest of nine children. She was described by family members as "an amazing young lady, whose peaceful presence and love of her fellow students and family is known throughout her Maryland-based school."

Jaelynn was shot in the head by Austin Rollins, a former boyfriend, in the hallway of her school early Tuesday morning. Police said they believe the "shooting was not a random act of violence." Rollins was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with a school resource officer, who responded to the shooting in under one minute. Police are unsure if Rollins shot himself, or if the resource officer fired the fatal shot.
