San Antonio  Police say an officer shot and killed a woman who pointed a gun at her during a struggle inside a north side home, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

A spokeswoman says this afternoons incident occurred in the 13600 block of Bluffcircle, which is near Bitters and West, adjacent to the Silverhorn golf course.

Police Chief Bill McManus said  officers were called on a welfare check and found a woman in her early forties locked in a bedroom, and relatives said she was armed.

When the officer forced her way in, the woman was pointing the gun at her own head. She and the female officer struggled as the officer attempted to disarm her.    At one point, McManus said the woman pointed the gun at the officer and the officer fired one shot.

The woman was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.    She was pronounced dead at University Hospital.  The officer wasnt hurt.

She is the second person shot and killed by SAPD in three days.  Thursday night an officer shot and killed a robbery suspect who pulled a knife on him during an arrest attempt on Loop 410 near McCullough.
