FCC: False Emergency Alert On Missile Launch In Hawaii 'Unacceptable'

Hawaii Emergency Alert

The FCC says it appears the Hawaiian  government did not have reasonable safeguards or process controls in  place to prevent broadcasting a false missile alert.  The Commission  says the false emergency alert sent to Hawaiians about an incoming  missile is absolutely unacceptable.  The FCC issued a rare Sunday  statement saying Saturday's warning across the state "caused a wave of  panic" worsened by the 38-minute delay before a correction alert was  issued.  The Commission went on to say false alerts undermine public  confidence in the alerting system and reduce their effectiveness during  real emergencies.
