Raging Fire Destroys Home, Sends Neighbors into the Cold

An errant firecracker is suspected in a fire that destroyed a northeast side home overnight, and prompted the evacuation of houses on either side of the burning home as a precaution, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

When Bexar County Fire units arrived in the 6800 block of Montgomery Road, they found fire raging through the house, with flames and smoke pouring out of the roof.

Officials quickly called in additional fire uinits from the Kirby, Windcrest, Converse, Universal City Fire Departments and they ordered residents of out houses on either side of the burning building, out of concern about the gusty winds.

The two people inside the burning house were safely evacuated and there were no injuries.

Firefighters said the home is a total loss.  Arson investigators are on the scene, but fire units say they suspect that a firecracker landed on a tarp that was covering the roof of the home due to damage from last springs' tornado.
