Suspect in Custody in Thanksgiving Day Murder of State Trooper

A suspect was arrested late Thursday in the murder of a state trooper  who was shot to death while sitting in the patrol car writing a traffic ticket on Thanksgiving Day, officials tell News Radio 1200 WOAI.

Trooper Damon Allen had pulled over a motorist on I-45 in Freestone County, which is southeast of Dallas.. He approached the car, talked to the driver, and then returned to his patrol car to radio in for a licence plate check and write the traffic citation.

As as Trooper Allen sat in his patrol car, he was shot several times with a rifle.. He was pronounced dead on the scene, and the gunman fled in the car that had been pulled over.

Several hours later, officials in Waller County, west of Houston, announced that the suspect had been arrested.

Gov. Abbott said Darbett Black, 32, 'will face justice.' The DPS said he will be charged with capital murder.

Officials have not released a possible motive in the murder.
