Shake Up at SAPD SVU After a Probe Found Cases Not Property Investigated

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says a failure to property investigate assigned cases has led to a shake-up in the SAPD's Special Victims Unit, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

McManus said in a statement that 'numerous assigned cases' have fallen through the cracks in the SUV, which generally investigates sex crimes, and a lieutenant and two sergeants have been transferred out 'for failing to properly supervise the unit.'

"Disciplinary processes that will take place in the wake of that investigation are in the final stages before completion," McManus said.  "All cases in question have been reassinged to other investigators for proper follow up."

McManus says he has requested that outside lawyers come in and investigate all SVU cases to make sure that no other cases have fallen through the cracks.

"SAPD's responsibility to investigate reported crimes and assist victims is one of our core missions," McManus said.  "This investigation will continue until we are certain that all cases have been properly investigated."
