The Future of Movie Technology Is On Display at Santikos Silverado

How are you going to convince people to keep going to the movie theater in these days of super sophisticated Ultra High Definition home entertainment systems?  News Radio 1200 WOAI reports the answer will be on display this weekend at the Santikos Silverado 16.

Called 'Barco Escape,' Chief Creative Officer Ted Schilowitz tells News Radio 1200 WOAI the technology consists of three screens, one to the front of the audience, and a screen to each side, with the film playing out on all three of them at once in an engrossing experience.

"Its a visual treat where the movie surrounds your visual experience, with three screens, not just one," he told 1200 WOAI news from Hollywood.

The new type of movie experience will be displayed in the first full length feasture film to be completely created in Barco Escape, director Scott Waugh's '6 Below, Miracle on the Mountain.' starring Josh Hartnett and Mira Sorvino.  Its the visually captivating story of a former pro hockey player who was marooned in the Sierra Nevada Mountains for eight days.

"When you go into the theater, you will immediately see that the theater has been transformed into something very different from what you have seen your whole life," he said.  "This is truly changing the face of cinema."

He says a handful of movies have been created with a few minutes of the film utilizing this format, and there was so much positive buzz that producers decided to create an entire film.

"Its exciting, its new, the energy we see when audiences come out of the theater after watching the movie is, 'wow, we can't wait for the next one!'"

Barco Escape utilizes three separate super high resolution theatrical projectors and two additional cinema scope screens to create the 'ultimate panoramic viewing experience.'

Santikos Theaters is one of the exhibitor partners for Barco Escape.  That isn't surprising, considering that Santikos has consistently been a leader in serving meals, drinks, and other amenities in theaters and encouraging individuals to continue enjoying a night out at the movies.

The film premieres on Friday.
