Illegal Immigrant to be Allowed to Remain in U.S.--In Federal Prison

One illegal immigrant will be able to stay in the U.S., and he won't even need the Dream Act.

News Radio 1200 WOAI reports Adrian Pineda-Orozco, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, has been sentenced to fifty years in federal prison for heading a methamphetimine distribution and manufacturing ring.

Federal prosecutors say Pineda-Orozco would import meth through Eagle Pass and distribute it all across the state.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Burke says that in itself is extremely dangerous.

"Particularly dangerous for the agents who are handling it at the border," he said.  "It is frequently smuggled into the country in bottles disguised as soft drinks.  People have been known to die drinking it."

And Burke says Pineda-Orozco showed no concern for the safety of residents of his adopted home country. When Homeland Security agents descended on him at a safe house where he had set up a deal to sell the meth to an undercover officer, Pineda-Orozco was so concerned about saving his own skin that he led offices on a high speed chase, coming close to hitting several children.

After Pineda-Orozco has served his sentence, he will be deported to Mexico.
