Retired Marine Officer Ready to Take on the Dean of Bexar Politics

The longest serving elected official in Bexar County will be facing a challenge if he decides to seek a ninth term on Commissioner's Court next year, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Queta Rodriguez, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain who is now the Bexar County Veterans Service Officer, helping military members transition to civilian life, says she will challenge Paul Elizondo if he chooses to run for another term as Precinct Two Commissioner.

“I am born and raised here – and I am passionate about our community. While serving my country for 20 years as a United States Marine, I always knew I would return and continue being a servant leader. I am committed to creating positive change where it is long overdue," she said.

Ironically, Elizondo also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Elizondo, who is also a prominent musician and band leader, was first elected to the Legislature in 1978 and then to Commissioner's Court in 1982.  He has not said whether he will run for re-election next year, but has not ruled it out.

If Elizondo does decide to run, unseating him won't be easy.  The office building that houses many County offices is called the Paul Elizondo Tower.
