A woman was killed overnight when she attempted to dash across Nacogdoches Road, away from a marked crosswalk, in a darkened stretch of highway, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Janeen Martin Rae, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.Police say she attempted to run across Nacogdoches in front of the Walmart north of Thousand Oaks.
She was hit by a Jeep Wrangler. The driver didn't see her until it was too late. He stopped and attempted to render aid, as did another motorist, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
As with many motor vehicle-pedestrian tragedies, police say there was a lighted, marked crosswalk within 100 yards of where the accident happened.
