LaHood, DA's Office, Cleared of Official Oppression Allegations

Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood has been cleared of allegations that he, or any of his staffers, threatened to destroy the practices of two local defense attorneys during a heated discussion regarding a high profile murder case, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

LaHood said this afternoon that a judge has cleared him of all charges.  He could have faced a 'Class A Misdemeanor' charge of official oppression.

"I am pleased to announce that the judge has ruled that the District Attorney's office did nothing to provoke the defense," LaHood said.  "Furthermore, the judge ruled that neither I nor anyone in this office engaged in any type of prosecutorial misconduct."

LaHood admits that he 'lost his temper' when responding to 'baseless allegations' leveled by the lawyers.

"The court's ruling vindicated our office of any allegations of prosecutorial misconduct," LaHood said, adding that he felt the allegations were 'false and baseless.'

LaHood said the murder trial of Miguel Martinez, who is charged with murdering a woman by shooting her five times in the head, will proceed, and he 'remains committed to seeking justice for families who have been victimized.'
