Drug Lord Fined $37 Million by Texas Judge

The former head of a powerful Mexican drug cartel has been sentenced to 35 years in prison and fined an amazing $37 million for leading a drug smuggling operation which supplied much of the marijuana to the U.S. Midwest, News Radio 1200 WOAI reprots.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texs says Adan Reyes, 38, headed the Reyes Drug Trafficking Orgnization, which imported marijuana by the bundle from Mexico into El Paso.

From there, the drugs were shipped to a terminal in Dumas, in the Texas Panhandle, and then shipped as far away as Chicago.

13 members of Reyes operation have already been sentenced and are serving lengthy terms in U .S. prisons.

The Reyes organization operated in Texas for nine years, until it was broken up by federal agents in 2015.

Reyes also has to forfeit the high living proceeds of his operation, including several luxury homes in El Paso and Ruidoso New Mexico, valued at more than $3 million.

He also has to give up multiple firearms and $23,000 in cash.
