The prominent movie streaming service Hulu has selected San Antonio as a location for its first major expansion out of its home city of Santa Barbara, officials tell News radio 1200 WOAI.
Mayor Taylor released a statement this afternoon confirming the news.
"I understand there are still a few hurdles to cross, but I’m excited that Hulu has selected San Antonio for its next major investment,” the Mayor said.
The hurdles are believed to include incentive packages being offered by the state.
"As a leader in the tech industry, Hulu’s decision to grow here is a testament to our City’s growing tech industry and our skilled and talented workforce, which were both heavily emphasized during our visit with the company’s leadership," the Mayor said.
A delegation of City and County officials traveled to California to meet with Hulu executives last month.Hulu is expected to open a service and technical center in the city, if the other incentive packages come through.
The plus for San Antonio is the fact that Hulu, which is a consumer product, is well known to the general public, and can be a well known name that economic development officials can point to when attracting more tech companies.
